Chithramitra017‘Chithramitra’, hails from Mumbai, Maharashtra. He nurtured dreams of becoming an artist since his childhood. His father, a business man, wanted him to run the family-owned restaurant, and so he was never encouraged to learn or pursue art professionally. He had to hide his sketches from his dad who refused to indulge in his son’s fantasies. He sketched in the bill books of his restaurant until his work caught the eye of a customer from a leading publication called Mid-day Mumbai. From there on, this self groomed artist started his career as a freelance illustrator. 

EXPERIENCE

  • His career as a freelance illustrator began in 1994 for Mid-day, Magna Publishing: (Magazines like Savvy, Society, Island, Stardust, Citadel, Health n Nutrition and their various other publications.) He was also involved in creating illustrations for Tinkle, Amar Chitra Katha, Sunday Observer, New Woman, Reader’s Digest, Femina and TOI. He also worked on projects on Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai.
  • He has worked for various advertisement agencies like LOWE (Lintas), Kailash, Picture Productions (K.P.C) and FAR Productions. Story boards for advertisement campaigns like the famous MRF Sachin Tendulkar advertisement, Hero Honda, Nyle shampoo Colgate International (Dubai) advertisements in Mumbai.
  • He was an assistant director for Mr. Jeet Surendranath, FAR productions, Mumbai.
  • Developed a cell animation for an educational project with Microsoft, Bengaluru.
  • He learnt sculpturingat Shri Hanumantha Acharya school of sculpting, Devanahalli, Bengaluru in1995.

  • Acted in a commercial movie, ‘Shanthiniketan’, directed by Shri. Karthik Shinde based on a story of an artist/ painter in an art school. This movie is in the process of its release. (2013).

  • Auctioned his charcoal work of ‘Mother Teresa’ for a whopping amount at a charity event organized by New York based designer Gazala at Joss in Mumbai, in aid of children affected by HIV AIDS. (2005)
  • Eight walls of the Kindergarten classrooms of North Point School (ICSE)Navi Mumbaicame to life with realistic pictures of birds, animals and marine life making the ambiance an enjoyable and happy one for the kids. The 3D effect in his work and emphasis to minute details were truly appreciated by the management. (2004)

Chithramitra believes that ‘medium does not define the art, but it is the product that relates to the viewer.’

He works with various mediums but charcoal, oil, acrylics, enamel, pen and ink are his favorites. Realistic, surrealistic and graphic are his forte. He loves to create super-realistic paintings on Indian mythology.
